Phonics for Reading and Writing – the complex phonics code (phase 5)
Tuesday 12th October 2021 1pm - 3pm
Join this workshop to develop your subject knowledge of the complex phonics code (phase 5) and gain new ideas to underpin your teaching of phonics for reading and writing.
For phonics teaching to be highly effective, practitioners must have secure subject knowledge and a clear understanding of phonological progression. This interactive online workshop will cover the relevant subject knowledge and progression for teaching the complex phonics code (phases 5-6), where children continue to build their knowledge of grapheme-phoneme correspondences, progressing into alternative representations and pronunciations. Included in the workshop will be games and activities to teach and practise concepts, as well as ideas for the application of phonics within discrete sessions and across the curriculum.
You will receive in advance all the handouts and resources for you to fully participate and, during the session, participation tools will be used such as practical activities, breakout groups for discussion and opportunities for questions throughout.
- Become familiar with the subject knowledge and terminology associated with teaching phonics
- Understand the progression in phonics teaching and children’s acquisition of the relevant knowledge and skills
- Explore practical games, activities and approaches for discrete phonics teaching and its application to reading and writing
This session is suitable for EYFS/KS1 teachers, KS2 teachers delivering phonics, TAs supporting the teaching of phonics.
